Structure, Activities & AssessmentsFollowing a Learning for Understanding philosophy (Wiggins & McTighe, 2008) and constructivist approach to e-learning (Brandon, 2004) the activities herein have been designed to incorporate active, intentional, authentic, constructive and cooperative attributes. It will engage learners in meaningful content through acquisition of skills, making meaning of content and transfer of understanding to new, relevant situations within a student-centered learning environment. This type of environment is concurrently knowledge-centered, learner-centered, assessment-centered and community-centered. Elements of constructivism including learning activities, learning assessments and the instructor roles, as noted by Koohang, Riley, Smith, and Schreurs (2009) are displayed throughout the development of the adjacent assessment taxonomy table, course organizational concept map and lesson activity cards.
The taxonomy table identifies the alignment of student learning objectives (SLO's) targeting higher-order taxonomy within the knowledge and cognitive dimension with appropriate assessments. Select the yellow puzzle piece to view the taxonomy table. The concept map identifies the connections and relationships between the SLO's and assessments. Lesson activities support the role of the instructor and the student throughout the learning process. Select the red puzzle piece to view the concept map. |
