Why did I choose the contact methods listed above?
I chose the contact methods above based upon communication practices I currently use throughout my daily activities.
These options will assure me that, if they are used by a student, I will receive the communication and can provide timely feedback.
I have included my cell phone at this juncture, but would most likely list my office phone contact depending upon the age of the class that I may teach online. If the course was within a K-12 or undergraduate setting, then I would use my office phone if one was available. If the course was within a graduate level, then I would share my office and cell phone number.
I have also listed a component for a course management system based upon the institution in which I would provide. It would be within this category that I would like various options within the system that a student could contact the instruction for additional support.
My website includes a CONTACT ME page. If contacted via my website, I will receive an email to my personal account so I will be aware that a submission has been posted.
What limitations have I placed on student contacts?
I have placed time parameters/expectations as to when I will check communication strands from students. Phone and email availability aligns with an average daily workday timeline, however, for phone contact I have chosen a prerequisite private email to determine a time that would be conducive to both parties acceptable availability free from distraction as well as an option in the event of an emergency.
How will you separate personal and work availability?
I have communicated email will be checked at the beginning and ending of each work day. This will allow me to review emails prior to beginning my workday as well as at the end of the workday. As time permits, checking email throughout the day may occur yet that would be an additional organization component that I do not feel needs to be shared with students as it is not an expectation I would like to convey. I have offered contact via phone, however, a prerequisite contact via email has been included to deter students from calling me throughout the day and having a conversation at a time or place that I cannot provide my full attention.
Reflection/Progression of Refinement:
I am pleased with my contact information page that I have created above. I worked diligently to add the components that I would like to have available to me if I was a student. I also reviewed many examples from various professors/teachers to create a blend of imperative information for my future students to reach out to contact me. I also included my photograph as I believe it is important to establish a human connection with my future students. In seeking feedback, no further modifications were suggested to my artifact of learning. I am confident that I have included the pertinent information necessary to achieve the goal of providing necessary information for contacting a course facilitator. As I begin teaching within an online environment, I will update the information above to align with current information.
